Acknowledgments

As a child of Christ, I acknowledge the following:

I have made Jesus my Savior. I have confessed Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and I have been baptized into Christ for the forgiveness of sin and the receiving of the Holy Spirit.

I personally desire this commitment. I desire to be part of this local body of believers, I willingly enter into this covenant with God and with the members of First Christian Church of New Salem.

Commitments

I understand that church membership is not what saves me. Salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone. Membership is my public commitment to walk with this church family as we follow Jesus, grow in faith, serve one another, and reach the lost. As a member of this church, I will commit to the following:

I will follow Jesus as Lord. I will seek to grow in my relationship with Christ through Scripture, prayer, repentance, obedience, and dependence on the Holy Spirit.

I will gather faithfully with the church. I will make worship, communion, teaching, fellowship, and prayer a regular priority in my life unless I am providentially hindered.

I will protect the unity of the church. I will act in love toward others, avoid gossip, pursue peace, forgive as Christ has forgiven me, and handle conflict in a biblical and Christ-honoring way.

I will serve the body of Christ. I will use the gifts, abilities, time, and opportunities God has given me to strengthen the church and help carry out its ministry.

I will support the mission of the church. I will help raise the body to reach the broken by praying for the lost, welcoming new people, encouraging others, and participating in the work of making disciples.

I will give faithfully and cheerfully. I will support the ministry of the church through joyful, faithful, and sacrificial giving as God provides.

I will live as a witness for Christ. I will seek to honor Jesus in my words, relationships, conduct, decisions, and priorities, remembering that my life reflects Christ and His church.

I will receive biblical encouragement and accountability. I will welcome loving correction, encouragement, and accountability from the church family and its leaders, with the goal of repentance, restoration, and spiritual growth.

I will pray for and support the leadership of the church. I will pray for the Elders, Ministers, and Ministry Leaders, and I will support them as they seek to lead the church faithfully according to Scripture.

I will leave peaceably if I can no longer support the church. If I can no longer support the faith, mission, leadership, or direction of this church, I will seek to communicate honestly and, if it comes to it, leave in a peaceful, Christ-honoring way.

Renewals and First Time Commitments

As we continue to grow together in faith and serve Christ as one church family, we invite all current members to renew their commitment by completing a Membership Covenant Form. We also warmly welcome those who are ready to become members to complete the form as an expression of their commitment to the Lord and the ministry of First Christian Church of New Salem.

The Membership Covenant Form may be completed at any time throughout the year. However, to be eligible to vote at the next year’s Congregation Meeting, completed forms must be submitted by July 31 of each year.
